It never seems to fail. Once your child gets the basics of writing down, they come home with a writing assignment that stymies them. You know they just need a little something extra to help give them confidence with their writing assignments.

I experienced the same thing. It wasn’t that my children or students needed a ton of help at this point, because they had learned the basics of note taking, paragraph writing, and essay writing with Ten Minutes to Better Study Skills . I knew that if my children and my students didn’t have a strong foundation in writing, they were not going to succeed in school. And I knew I wasn’t going to proof all of my children’s assignments in high school and college. They needed to be able to proof their own papers themselves.

The fact is that they knew I wasn’t always going to be there to give them additional help with their writing whenever they needed it. They would have to be able to proof their own papers and make a few changes to them to improve them without my constant guidance. They needed the confidence and tools to use to actually improve their writing skills.

Knowing this, wanting to totally empower my children and my students with their writing, I did some serious thinking about what would be the best solution to this problem.

Finally I decided the best thing to do was to create a Writer’s Easy Reference Guide that would have all of the critical information my children and students would need at their fingertips such as how to:

Make good word choices and improve their vocabulary.

Improved Language/Writing Test Scores

Stanford 9 Language test scores have risen across the board for 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students since Woodrow Wilson Senior High has had students using The Writer’s Easy Reference Guide. Language test scores rose an average of 8% for all three grade levels.

The percentage of students scoring at or above the 50th NPR also increase 5% for 9th graders, 3% for 10th graders, and 8% for 11th graders.
